  • Introduction to Cybersecurity (CYB 206)
  • In the Internet age, security in the cyber space or cybersecurity has become the most important fundamental security components. This is an introductory survey course that explores the fundamental concepts of cybersecurity. Coverage includes the concepts of confidentiality, integrity, and availability, cybersecurity policy, and the ethical & legal aspects of cybersecurity (also check ITM 470 that covers the management aspects of information security on computer systems and networks). In the cyber space, security is vital in maintaining its confidentiality, integrity, and availability. This course explores the fundamental aspects of securing a network such as identifying threats, vulnerabilities, and assets that aid in planning, risk analysis, and implementation of security policies. In addition, ethical and legal issues are also covered. This course can help students prepare for the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) exam.

The course book "Fundamentals of Information Systems Security by Kim, David, and Michael G. Solomon (3rd edition; Publisher: Jones & Bartlett)" is part of the Information Systems Security & Assurance (ISSA) Series (check: www.issaseries.com). This book provides step-by-step examples of information security concepts and procedures throughout the text. In addition, its chapter summaries included in the text provides a rapid review of the material that are helpful to the readers.
